Many thanks to all who

Facility |

KAIROS
is an ecumenical worldwide ministry that takes the love of God and the
light of Christ into prisons. Similar to Cursillo or the Emmaus Walk, a
team of Christian volunteers become the hands and feet of Christ for 42
residents who come to
KAIROS seeking a new way of
life. You are invited to be a part of the Kairos Team through acts of
AGAPE
for Alabama Limestone Special Kairos #46,
August 28-31, 2008. |
|
INVITATION AND INSTRUCTIONS FOR AGAPE
In the context of Kairos, AGAPE is a tangible expression of God’s
unconditional love, given to the pilgrims by the expansive family of God.
|
|
You are invited to serve in this prison ministry. We need your
participation! Please join this ministry in the way you feel called. Above
all, pray for the pilgrims, the correctional officers, and for all the
residents of Limestone Correctional Facility…that this experience of God’s
love will truly transform their hearts and lives. |
|
PRAYER:
Commit to pray for Kairos one or more times on the Prayer Vigil list. List
will be posted in the Commons of at Good Shepherd two weeks ahead of the
Kairos week-end in March. |
|
COOKIES:
12,000 home-made cookies are eaten during a Kairos weekend. There are some
specifics for the kind of cookie that can be given. Favorites are anything
with nuts, chocolate chips and peanut butter. Brownies and Rice Krispie
Treats also bring big smiles and often memories of home, a grandmother, or
some place or someone who at one time cared for them. The specific
instructions are: |
|
|
Size: 2” to 3” in diameter
Ingredients: No fruit…No toppings, frostings, or powdered sugar
Packing: 1 dozen per self-sealed plastic bag
Deliver to Good Shepherd by the Wednesday before the
Kairos week-end. |
|
POSTERS, BANNERS,
AND PLACEMATS: Hand decorated posters and placemats help
inmates know they are not alone. Everyone cannot step into the prison, but
by making posters and placemats from your church school class, Reunion
Group, etc, you can help the ministry. Children’s work is especially
touching to the men. |
|
FINANCIAL SUPPORT:
It costs approximately $150 per pilgrim on each Kairos week-end. Team
members commit to time and sponsorship of one pilgrim, in addition to
their own expenses. Donations to KAIROS of Alabama are another way that
all persons can minister to those in prison. Address: P. O. Box 26586,
Birmingham, AL 35260. |
|
CLOSING SERVICE
SUNDAY, AUGUST 31: Requirements to attend this closing
include a willing heart, prayer and attendance at one PREA training
session which lasts a couple of hours – good for a lifetime! You must also
submit your driver’s license number approximately 2 weeks prior to be
cleared by the correctional staff. |
|
Thank you for
supporting Alabama Limestone Special Kairos #46
(August, 2008) in the way you feel called to this ministry,
as a vital person of the Body of Christ.
