Outreach
|
|
From the
beginning, Good Shepherd has always been conscious of reaching
out to our community and beyond to aid those in need, sharing
God’s blessings. Many energetic volunteers help make the
outreach activities of Good Shepherd a successful and
rewarding ministry through such programs and charitable
organizations as: |

Camp Joy
In 2000, Good Shepherd and St. John’s Episcopal Church
partnered with Pine Hill Day Camp to begin Camp Joy – a day
camp for those children who otherwise would not be able to
share in the joys of a camp experience. Other community
churches have joined the effort over the years, namely St.
Paul’s Lutheran and First Presbyterian. Rotary Club also gives
financial aid. Activities at Camp Joy include hiking,
canoeing, horseback riding, archery, arts and crafts,
swimming, community-building, and learning about God’s love.
Each of the six local Boys and Girls Clubs select children to
attend. The boys and girls work hard all year toward the goal
of being chosen as campers. We not only support this ministry
financially but are “personally involved,” as several of us
participate as counselors, cooks, and go-fers!

Our Welcome to Visitors
We reach out to visitors with our bread delivery, which seems
to be an appreciated way of saying, “Welcome.” Once a
new person or family has been identified, a loaf of home-baked
bread is delivered within 2-3 days of their visit to Good
Shepherd. A note attached to the bread quotes John 6:35 ("...I
am the bread of life...") and invites the newcomer to become a
part of the community that we so cherish.

C.E.R.T. – Choral Emergency Response Team
Our choir is known for being a dedicated group of people, who
love singing and being together. To share the joy and
fun with others, C.E.R.T. was begun in 2005 under the
leadership of Music Director/ Organist/ Pianist Janet Varner.
Periodically the group schedules an afternoon tour to sing for
parishioners who are shut in or just simply in need of a
“pick-me-up.” |
