In addition to the Christian
Education program, Good Shepherd offers youth ministries that span the
age groups from kindergarten through high school. Clergy involvement has
played a significant role in the success of our youth programs, the
growing edge for our parish. Please call the church office for
current contact information.

Senior EYC (Episcopal Youth Community)
This group is made up
of our high school members of the congregation and friends, meeting
regularly on Sunday evenings. For the 2006-7 school year, the focus has
been "Religion in the Cinema." At each meeting, the group watches a
popular film (for example, Cool Runnings, ET and Freedom Writers)
and then discusses the religious, cultural, and social implications of
the movie over pizza. Additional activities have included
preparing meals to raise funds for the youth activities, neighborhood
food drives to benefit the Food Bank of the Committee on Church
Cooperation, fellowship dinners and day trips.

Towel Ministry
Since the summer of 1995, our youth and dedicated adult advisors have
traveled to various locations in North Carolina to participate in Towel
Ministry work camps. Families and individuals are helped with home
repairs that they cannot afford to do themselves. In addition to working
together, youth (ages 13-19) and advisors attend morning Bible study,
evening group discussions, and daily worship. It is an outreach ministry
that teaches our youth that they are the hands of God in the world.
Good Shepherd sponsored its first “Mini-Towel” in April 2002, to benefit
those within our own community. Working with our youth and adults were
participants from St. John’s Episcopal Church in Decatur and St.
Barnabas Episcopal Church in Hartselle. The great success of that first
year has led to continued annual Mini-Towel week-ends with St. Barnabas,
serving many local families.
